Banking Colostrum
Banking colostrum. ✔️

Our bodies absolutely amaze me. Colostrum contains antibodies to help protect our newborns from illness. In some cases, like mine, our doctor or midwife will encourage us to begin to store the colostrum a few days before giving birth (after 37 weeks). For us particularly our girl is growth restricted and so she is coming in under 5lbs. For me that means mental preparation for a NICU baby. And simply taking these extra precautions to keep her safe from germs in the middle of winter. Any winter mommas know it’s something we inevitably worry about. This small measure gives me peace of mind that I can help contribute to her wellbeing when she’s out here in our world. For now I just keep praying she’s 5lbs, but have faith in the whole process. And speaking of faith, I reached out to my girlfriend last night who is a nurse + lactation consultant to ask her a simple storage question. Usually I Google everything as the resourceful woman I am in our day. However, I kept getting an intuitive hit to simply ask her. So I did. And you know what? This happened with her first baby. Yep. 4 lbs and short NICU stay BUT today her babe is thriving. THRIVING. That’s all I can seem to hold onto. It’s funny how God works through people. Her story calmed my mind and heart, giving my fear an opportunity to dissipate. Trust your intuition, it’s a guide to the highest good for all. 🙏🏻
